For questions 1–8, read the text below. Use the word given in capitals at the end of some of the lines to form a word that fi ts in the gap in the same line. There is an example at the beginning (0).
The woman on the hill
A (0) mysterious (MYSTERY) woman has lived completely alone in a large house on a hill in North Yorkshire for the last fifty years. She (1) ________ OCCASION visits the nearby village to buy fruit. She walks (2) ________ (CONFIDENCE) down the main street but she only speaks briefly to one shop assistant. She doesn’t (3) ________ (SOCIAL) with anyone at all and no one has ever been to visit her. Local people say that she receives (4) ________ (DELIVER) of food and fuel but they assume she makes all her orders and (5) ________ (PAY) online, so they don’t even know her name.
She gives the (6) ________ (IMPRESS) from the way she behaves that she might once have been famous. She must have been very (7) ________ (ATTRACT) when she was young but she appears to be well over 70 now. Nobody in the village knows who she is and they are (8) ________ (LIKE) ever to find out.
