EXAM PRACTICE
Reading and Use of English Part 2
For questions 1–8, read the text below and think of the word which best fits each gap. Use only one word in each gap. There is an example at the beginning (0).
Names
If, like me, you're called John Smith and live in England, you have the same name (0) as thousands of other people. As a child, I thought that (2) _____ in the world had their (2)_____ names, but when I started school I found (3) _____ were other boys with my name. In fact, one of them became a close friend of (4)_____ . Strangers often think they have met me before, but then realise that they're thinking of somebody (5)_____ – another John Smith. In hotels or banks, people often look at me suspiciously when I give my name as (6)_____ is often the name used by people who don't want to give their real one! On the whole, though, I've decided it's better to have a common name. I recently met two people called Honey Moon and Holly Bush! (7)_____ of them appeared to mind having an unusual name although they (8)_____ agreed that people sometimes did not take them seriously.
