Read the text below and choose the correct word for each space.

The Roman Baths

The city of Bath (0) takes its name from the public baths (1) ____ were built there by the Romans. By the middle of the first century, they’d already (2) ____ planning the baths. The biggest bath, (3) ____ as the Great Bath, was (4) ____ a swimming pool. In the next 300 years, the Romans (5) ____ the baths with changing rooms, a sauna and other smaller baths.

They used to come there not only to wash (6) ____ also to meet friends. The baths were, in (7) ____ , at the heart of Roman life. This way (8) ____ life ended in the year 400 when the Romans left Britain. By that time, they’d built towns, roads and bridges across Britain.
